Perched 190 meters above sea level, Rigby & Rigby’s new mountain villa in Koh Samui commands one of the island’s most breathtaking vantage points. From this elevated position, the residence opens onto uninterrupted views of the Gulf of Thailand, where the horizon merges seamlessly with the tropical sky. Nestled among lush vegetation and dramatic stone formations, the villa is conceived not as an intrusion on nature, but as a sensitive intervention that responds to its context.

Design Philosophy

Rooted in modernist principles, the architectural concept is defined by harmony with the natural environment. The villa follows the contours of the hillside, integrating with its surroundings rather than imposing upon them. Strategically sited between large rock formations, the building captures prevailing breezes and maximizes panoramic views, offering both visual drama and environmental responsiveness.

The horizontal layering of spaces mirrors the topography of the site. Broad cantilevered terraces project outward, creating generous shaded areas while framing vistas of the sea. This careful balance between openness and protection allows the architecture to breathe with the climate—light, air, and greenery become integral elements of the design, encouraging seamless indoor–outdoor living. Drawing inspiration from modernist organic principles, the villa embodies a delicate balance between modernist rigor and respect for nature.

Living Experience

Designed as a family retreat, the villa places shared spaces at the heart of daily life. Expansive living areas flow onto outdoor terraces, allowing everyday routines to unfold in direct connection with the tropical landscape. Each bedroom faces the sea, ensuring every family member enjoys a personal relationship with the spectacular views.

The ground floor is devoted to communal living. An open-plan lounge, dining area, and poolside breakfast bar foster interaction and togetherness. Outdoor living is celebrated, with spa facilities, terraces, and shaded lounges providing a variety of spaces for relaxation, entertainment, and play.

Project Status

Rigby & Rigby have undertaken several site visits to Koh Samui over the past year, immersing themselves in the local environment to better understand the climate, culture, and landscape. This research has informed the architectural strategy. The project is currently progressing through local authority planning submission, with detailed design underway, and the team anticipates tender in the second quarter of 2026.
