Defining the Future of Refined Luxury Living

Rigby & Rigby: Designing the Future of Refined Luxury Living

Located in the heart of London, Rigby & Rigby is an innovative interior design studio, led by Studio Director James Ashfield and a multidisciplinary team dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind environments that blend functionality with distinction.

A Legacy of Excellence

Rigby & Rigby’s portfolio encompasses a variety of projects, from transformative townhouses in Knightsbridge and Mayfair to expansive residences in the Home Counties and prestigious developments overseas. Notably, Project Eighty Nine in London became the UK’s first private residence to receive WELL certification, setting a benchmark for health-led design. The project exemplifies our ability to deliver complex briefs with precision, ambition and narrative - all based from a research and development consideration. Bespoke elements such as a liquid metal artwork wall and a 950kg carved marble table create an unmistakably unique environment and atmosphere.

Internationally, the studio has crafted residences in Dubai’s Atlantis The Royal, a private superhome in a sought-after district of Tokyo, and a private family office in Oslo. These projects go beyond impressive properties—they are meticulously designed spaces where every detail enhances the experience of relaxing, living and entertaining.

Innovative Design Philosophy

Rigby & Rigby stands apart for its integrated approach — harmonizing their ecosystem for development combining architecture, interior design, project delivery, and technology into one seamless process. This multidisciplinary structure ensures precision and control while maintaining creative freedom. Design decisions are driven by intent, not trends—whether it’s a serene wellness space, a technically complex basement, or an intricate joinery detail. Every element is crafted with purpose: how it should feel, how it should function, and how it should endure.

James Ashfield: Leading with Passion & Care

James Ashfield, Studio Director of Interior Design, brings over 20 years of international experience in luxury design. James has played a pivotal role in shaping the studio’s direction, alongside counterparts in Architecture & Construction and the founder and CEO, Iain Johnson. His leadership has been instrumental in the success of projects such as the multi award winning Lancelot House, where he led the creation of spaces rich in meaning and beauty.

A key moment in James’ career came through his collaboration with renowned Japanese architects, where he embraced the principles of Wabi Sabi—celebrating nature, imperfection, and simplicity. This philosophy continues to shape his approach, ensuring thoughtful and crafted designs.

James’ passion for art, craft and technology led him to study Interior Architecture, blending creativity with technical expertise. His global experiences, including living in the Middle East, broadened his perspective, allowing him to design spaces that respect both cultural context and environmental sustainability.

Beyond his individual contributions, James attributes Rigby & Rigby’s success to the strength of the team. Each project is a product of seamless collaboration among architects, designers, project managers, and craftsmen, all working toward a shared vision. This collective expertise ensures every aspect of the design and delivery process is executed with care and precision.

Recognition & Impact

Rigby & Rigby’s work has garnered consistent recognition, including the Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark for ESG performance and inclusion in Country & Town House’s ‘Top 50 Interior Designers’. However, the true reward lies in the lasting relationships we’ve built with our clients, many of whom return time and again, with a repeat client occurrence of over 72%, a real testament to all of our team and our clients trusting us to deliver exceptional results in every project.

Looking Ahead

Rigby & Rigby continues to evolve, building on our success across Japan (We have a satellite office there), Dubai, Norway, Thailand and the UK, with ongoing projects in North America, Europe and many jurisdictions in South East Asia. Our strength lies in integrating architecture, interiors, and delivery into a cohesive process, creating highly tailored spaces that work beautifully, feel effortless, and perform seamlessly.

Our portfolio includes luxury hospitality, projects delivered for the renowned Maybourne group at The Emory, Maybourne Riviera and Claridge’s, as well as collaborations in private aviation and superyachts. We’re excited to be strengthening the team, with the appointment of a new Creative Director, to capture opportunities in F&B, retail, hospitality and further more in marine. Each brief presents unique challenges, and we approach them with the same rigour and refinement every time. We’re not chasing trends—we’re setting new standards for what refined luxury or boutique environments can be: emotionally resonant, technically advanced, and deeply personal. As we expand into new territories, our purpose remains unchanged: to craft one-of-a-kind projects that people feel good in, want to share, and never want to leave.
