Rigby & Rigby Visits Schüco

Why Schüco: A Legacy of Precision, Innovation and Uninterrupted Views
Founded in Germany, Schüco specialises in windows, doors and façades that combine engineering precision with architectural freedom. Their systems are behind many of the world’s most demanding façades, where transparency, performance and durability must coexist without compromise. Our recent visit to their campus in Bielefeld was an opportunity to see, first-hand, how that reputation is built.
The Schüco campus reads like a timeline of façade innovation: older buildings carry the language of early aluminium systems, while newer ones showcase ultra-slim, highly insulated curtain walls. Inside, we saw how every junction, seal and profile is resolved as part of a complete system rather than a collection of parts. That becomes especially clear in their sliding systems, where even the motor is concealed so the track virtually disappears. The aim is simple but powerful – to remove visual noise and allow the landscape to remain the focus, a philosophy that mirrors our intent in Khao Yai.

Performance Proven: Extreme Testing Meets Climate-Driven Innovation
Quality and safety sit at the centre of Schüco’s operation. In vast testing halls, full-scale façades are subjected to wind, water and impact tests. Systems are pushed to extremes – from corrosion and fire resistance to ballistic and blast performance – so that day-to-day use sits well within a generous safety margin. We also saw opening elements being cycled tens of thousands of times, ensuring that by the time a window reaches site, its reliability has already been proven many times over.
Innovation is driven by in-house R&D and a global network of region-specific solutions. For Khao Yai, we are using a system originally developed by Schüco’s Middle East division, tailored to hot climates with intense solar exposure. Standing in a warehouse-like hall with 20-metre ceilings, watching an 8-metre-wide bi-fold door glide open with just a finger, we saw what that innovation looks like at full scale: heavy engineering made effortless in use.

Detail as Discipline: Coordinating Precision from Germany to Thailand
What we ultimately brought back from Bielefeld is a renewed conviction that details matter. Both Rigby & Rigby and Schüco share a belief that careful thinking at the early stages leads to buildings that perform better and require less maintenance over time. In Thailand, that means managing the tension between German precision and local fabrication realities. Through close coordination with Schüco’s experts, early involvement of Thai fabricators and rigorous on-site mock-ups, we are systematically de-risking the process. Step by step, we are working towards a façade in Khao Yai that is as flawless in operation as it is effortless in appearance.
